A young innovator's contribution to health and education!
Soumya Ranjan Sahoo, a 12-year-old student from Odisha, has made a cool new desk! This desk lets kids exercise while they study, helping them stay fit and healthy.
Soumya’s idea was so good that he won 5th place at the INSPIRE Awards-MANAK, which is a big competition for smart ideas.
How did he get the idea?
Soumya wanted to help one of his friends, who was struggling with obesity because he wasn’t exercising much. His teachers told him to exercise, but it was hard for him to keep up with his health.
Soumya used his love for science to make this special desk that helps kids stay active in class.
A simple but smart design!
The desk has a chair and a table, and there’s a pedal underneath it. Students can pedal while they sit and study!
The chair and table have wheels, so they can move around easily. There’s even a spring on the back of the chair, so kids can also exercise their arms and legs.
Benefits of the exercise desk.
This desk helps kids stay strong and healthy. It can help stop problems like being too anxious or gaining too much weight.
Soumya also thinks kids will have more fun learning with this desk, which might help to improve their attendance in school.
