We have heard of things getting stolen, like money, food, clothes, etc. But have you ever heard of a pond getting stolen? Reports say a pond was 'stolen' overnight in Bihar's Darbhanga district. A hut was also built where the pond used to be.
Who ‘stole’ the pond?
The land mafia supposedly ‘stole’ the government pond. They filled it with sand and put up a hut. The locals also called the police. People in the area used the pond for fishing and watering plants.
The local mafia fled before the police came. Some think the high land prices in Darbhanga made the mafia target the water body. Locals complained to officials when the pond-filling started. The officials stopped the work.
However, the mafia secretly filled the land at night until the pond was gone, or 'stolen' as reported. The police are investigating the incident. This isn't the first time something strange like this has happened in Bihar.
What other similar incidents have occurred in Bihar?
In November 2022, something unusual happened in Begusarai. Thieves stole a diesel engine from a railway yard. They made a tunnel to get there and took the engine part by part. Also, in 2022, a bridge was stolen in the Rohtas district.
A government officer was among the eight people arrested for the stolen bridge. A few years ago, even a 2 km long road was stolen in Bihar. These are some very strange thefts that happened in the state.
