What is happening in Andhra Pradesh?
YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Chief Minister (CM) of Andhra Pradesh, recently announced that Visakhapatnam will be the state's new capital and that the government will move there in the upcoming months.
The CM said that he wishes to work from this location. Visakhapatnam (also known as Vizag) is the largest city in Andhra Pradesh.
By making this announcement, the CM is sticking to the state government’s three-capital plan.
What is the three-capital plan of Andhra Pradesh?

Andhra Pradesh's three-capital plan is to establish three capitals:
1. Amaravati will be the place where the state's laws will be made and the people who make such laws will work there. 2. The CM’s office and other departments would be located in Visakhapatnam. 3. Kurnool will house the High Court.
The government created this plan to make sure that all regions of the state receive equal resources and development. They do not want to focus mainly on developing a fancy capital city while neglecting the rest of the state.
Is this a good idea?
The creation of many capitals is not uncommon. The aim behind this plan is to govern the state better from multiple locations. However, it may create problems for the general public.
The people of Andhra Pradesh may have to travel between the three capitals, increasing travel costs. It would be easier if all the government offices could be found in one location rather than having to travel to different cities. The government may have to spend more money to build and maintain three capital cities.
What did we learn from this article?
We learned about how a state government makes decisions and how they can be a hit or a miss. If the plan works, then it would be beneficial for the people of the state, but if it does not, then it will create a lot of problems.
Let’s hope the plan of the Andhra Pradesh government works out and helps the people of the state.
