<h5>Huh?! Butter chicken battle?</h5><p>Imagine two chickens fighting against each other in a ring, WWE style! No, we are not witnessing Chicken Cena vs. Chicken Rollins, but a legal battle regarding the invention of the dish ‘butter chicken’.</p><p>Two famous Delhi restaurants, Daryaganj and Moti Mahal, have each said they are the <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://www.newsahoot.com/articles/who-invented-butter-chicken-and-dal-makhani">inventors of butter chicken and dal makhani</a>. This has started an argument between them, and the matter has reached the Delhi High Court (HC).</p><h5>A short background.</h5><p>Moti Mahal says its founder, Kundan Lal Gujral, created butter chicken many years ago. However, the Jaggi family (owners of Daryaganj) says the late Kundan Lal Jaggi created it.</p><p>Daryaganj’s lawyer has said both men had jointly established the first Moti Mahal restaurant in Pakistan.</p><p>After Independence, the restaurant was opened in Delhi, where Gujral only handled marketing, while Jaggi handled the kitchen and invented the dish.</p><h5>Court looking at new evidence!</h5><p>The HC is looking at new evidence:</p><ul><li>an old photograph from the 1930s showing Kundan Lal Gujral and Kundan Lal Jaggi in Pakistan,</li><li>a partnership agreement from 1949,</li><li>Jaggi's business card after moving to Delhi,</li><li>A 2017 video of Jaggi talking about the origin of the dish.</li></ul><p>Daryaganj says the partnership agreement signifies that both restaurants can say that their respective ancestors created the dishes.</p><h5>What’s next?</h5><div class="raw-html-embed"><figure> <iframe width="100%" height="350" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/a03U45jFxOI" title="How To Make Butter Chicken At Home | Restaurant Style Recipe | The Bombay Chef – Varun Inamdar" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" allowfullscreen=""></iframe><figcaption>A video on how to make butter chicken.
