Who is Buzz Aldrin?

Ever looked up at the sky and dreamt about going to the moon? Well, Buzz Aldrin actually did. He was the second person to walk on the moon (the first was Neil Armstrong). Edwin Eugene Aldrin, Jr. was born on 20th January 1930 (yeah he recently turned 93!). "Buzz" was his family's nickname for him.

After completing his education, Aldrin joined the United States Air Force. He later went on to study astronautics before joining the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) as an astronaut. He was selected for the Apollo 11 space mission.

Apollo 11 was used to carry Aldrin, Neil Armstrong, and Michael Collins to the moon. In 1971, Aldrin retired from NASA.

On 16th July 1969, the Apollo 11 spacecraft was launched. After travelling across space, the spacecraft arrived at the moon. While Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin landed on the moon in another small spacecraft attached to Apollo 11, the main spacecraft remained in orbit. Michael Collins stayed on the main spacecraft.

The two astronauts collected some rock and soil samples from the moon and placed certain scientific instruments on the moon's surface before returning to Earth.

The Apollo 11 mission showed that when we work together to push the limits of science and technology, we can achieve amazing things. It was a difficult task to land humans on the moon and successfully return them. This mission boosted the interest of future generations in space exploration and technology.
