Why and when is Children’s Day celebrated?
Every year, India celebrates Children’s Day on November 14. This special day is also the birthday of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, India's first Prime Minister, who was known as ‘Chacha Nehru’. Nehru loved children and believed they were the true future of India. To honour his love for children, his birthday became known as Children’s Day, or ‘Bal Divas’ in Hindi.
Who was Jawaharlal Nehru?
Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru was born on November 14, 1889, in Allahabad, India. He studied in England and later returned to India in 1912 to for India's independence. Nehru became India’s first Prime Minister in 1947.

3. Nehru is known as the “architect of modern India” because he helped shape the country's future.
Before 1964, Children’s Day in India was celebrated on November 20, which is World Children’s Day. But after Nehru’s passing in 1964, India decided to honour his memory by celebrating Children’s Day on his birthday, November 14.
