About Chess Olympiad.
The Chess Olympiad is a major chess tournament in which the best players from different countries compete as teams against other countries.
The International Chess Federation (FIDE) organises this event. The first Chess Olympiad happened in 1924 in Paris, France. The tournament was originally held once a year, but since 1950, it has been held once every two years.
The Soviet Union/ Russia is the most successful country in the tournament's history. This year, in September 2024, the thrilling tournament was held in Budapest, Hungary.

India wins big at the tournament!
Guess what? India made history at this year’s Chess Olympiad! The men’s and women’s teams won their first gold medals! Before this, the men’s team won bronze medals in 2014 and 2022, while the women’s team won bronze in 2022.
The gold-winning men’s team included Gukesh D, Praggnanandhaa R, Arjun Erigaisi, Vidit Gujrathi, and Pentala Harikrishna. The women’s team had Harika Dronavalli, Vaishali Rameshbabu, Divya Deshmukh, Vantika Agrawal, and Tania Sachdev.
These players have made India super proud with their awesome skills! Let’s cheer for them and hope they win even more medals!
