What are same-sex parents?
There are many different kinds of families in the world. The ones with a mother, father and children are just one of these kinds.
Just like your parents love each other, sometimes a man loves a man and a woman loves a woman. In families where both the parents are women or both are men, the children are just as loved and supported as your parents love you.
Children of same-sex parents are the same as children everywhere else. They love doing things like watching movies, hanging out with friends and eating ice cream.
How different are same-sex parents from my parents?
Parents are parents, no matter who they love. They work hard to raise and educate you, shower you with love, and discipline you when you do something naughty. Whether someone loves a man or a woman has nothing to do with what kind of parent they are.
However, many people discriminate against same-sex parents because they think same-sex parenting affects a child negatively.
Many studies show us that this is not true. Here’s a new study that tells us that too.
Tell me about the study.
Researchers at the University of Cologne in Germany compared the lives of some children with same-sex parents to the lives of some children with different-sex parents. The children in both groups were aged between six and sixteen years.
What was the finding of the study?
The study showed that children of same-sex parents are as well-adjusted as the children of different-sex parents. It also revealed one more thing.
Same-sex parents face a lot of disapproval from society. To protect their children from this, they teach their children how to be resilient.
It’s sad that children so young have to learn to deal with such unkindness from the world. On the other hand, it’s heartening to know that children of same-sex parents come from such warm, loving, and supportive homes that help them face the difficulties of life with a smile.
