Cyclone Chido recently hit Mayotte, a French island in the Indian Ocean. It was a very strong storm, and many people are worried that many lives were lost.

The cyclone hit the island at night with strong winds, over 200 km/h (124 mph). It destroyed homes, schools, hospitals, and even government buildings. Experts say it was the worst storm in Mayotte in 90 years.

Because of broken roads and damaged phones, it is hard for rescue teams to reach people. So, we don’t know how many people have been hurt or died yet.

The French government and rescue teams are working hard to help everyone. Many people are helping to rebuild the island.

Before a cyclone, make sure your home is safe. Check that windows, doors, and roof tiles are not broken or loose. It’s also good to have a flashlight with extra batteries in case the power goes out.

Keep some dry food at home, like cans or snacks, in case you can’t buy food later. If the government tells you to leave your home, follow their instructions to find shelter. Always have an emergency kit ready with water, food, and a first aid kit.

Stay safe and be prepared!
