Our parents, relatives, friends, etc. always act as our guides. Similarly, the President of India is a guide for our country and its people.
What is the role of the President of India?
The president has several important roles. The President of India is the head of India’s three armed forces (Army, Navy, and the Air Force). Also, the president appoints all high-level officers of India. The President also acts as a representative of India. But, most importantly, every law made in India requires the president's approval.
How is the President of India elected?
The people of India do not directly elect the President. The people only elect the Members of Legislative Assemblies (MLAs) and the Members of Parliament (MPs). These MLAs and MPs then vote and elects the President of India. The recent presidential elections were held on 18th July 2022, and Draupadi Murmu was chosen as our next president.
Who is Draupadi Murmu?
Draupadi Murmu is our country’s next and 15th president.
She is India’s first tribal president. She is also the second ever woman President of India, following Pratibha Patil.
Murmu used to work as a teacher. Later she joined politics and was elected as an MLA in 2000 and 2009. She was the first female governor of Jharkhand.
What should be our expectations from Draupadi Murmu?
As the President of India, Draupadi Murmu is expected to work for the well-being of every Indian citizen. She is also expected to help in the well-being of the tribal community of India. All the best to her for her new role as the President!
