Which brother-sister duo has earned the grandmaster title?
Chess player Vaishali Rameshbabu recently became a grandmaster (GM) in chess. Her brother, Praggnanandhaa Rameshbabu, is also a GM. He became one of the youngest GMs in history in 2018 at the age of twelve. Together, they are the first brother and sister duo to earn this title.
Vaishali is a skilled chess player and the third Indian woman to become a GM, after Koneru Humpy and Harika Dronavalli. She is the 84th chess GM in India and earned her title at the IV El Llobregat Open tournament in Spain after achieving a 2500 FIDE rating.
Praggnanandhaa, her brother, became the youngest international master in 2016 (he was just ten years old at that time!). When he was three years old, Praggnanandhaa began playing chess with his sister, Vaishali. Both their achievements show how talented the siblings are.

What is the grandmaster title?

Chess titles are given to players based on their ability, performance, and rank. The best title a chess player can get is "Grandmaster." FIDE gives out this title and other titles like international master.
How does a player get the grandmaster title?
FIDE gives this title to players who reach a 2500 FIDE rating in regular chess and earn three GM norms. Back in 1950, 27 players were the first to get the special title of Grandmaster.
The GM norms are a set of strict and complex rules regarding tournaments, games, and players made by FIDE. They are tough to get, and only the best players who get three of them and a 2500 FIDE rating become Grandmasters.
