Gukesh makes history!

Gukesh Dommaraju, also called Gukesh D, has become the youngest world chess champion ever! He is only 18 years old. Gukesh won an exciting match in Singapore against China’s Ding Liren.

This win broke a very old record. Garry Kasparov, a famous chess player, became champion at 22 years old in 1985. Gukesh is now four years younger than that!

When Gukesh Dommaraju realised he had won, he was so happy he cried. His father hugged him, and the crowd cheered loudly.

At the press conference, Gukesh said this was his dream come true. He worked very hard for this since he started playing chess. Gukesh also showed respect to Ding Liren. He called him a "legend of the game."

People in India are very proud of Gukesh. Even Prime Minister Narendra Modi said his win was an incredible achievement.

Has any other Indian won the world championship?

Gukesh Dommaraju is only the second Indian to become a world chess champion! The first was Viswanathan Anand, another great chess player.

India has many talented young players, like Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa, Vaishali Rameshbabu, Arjun Erigaisi, and Divya Deshmukh. Maybe one of them will become the next world champion!
