This means we might eat certain foods even when we are not hungry.</p><p>Overeating our favourite foods can lead to obesity, heart disease, gastric problems, etc. When such an addiction takes over, people often need professional help to overcome this unhealthy habit.</p><h5>Can gut bacteria cause food addiction?</h5><p>Researchers have found some surprising connections between gut bacteria and food addiction in mice and people.</p><p>Gut bacteria, also known as gut microbiota, are tiny living creatures found in our stomachs and intestines that aid in digestion and overall health.</p><p>In their studies, researchers discovered that certain gut bacteria might be linked to food addiction.</p><p>For instance, harmful bacteria like Proteobacteria were more common in addicts (both humans and mice), while helpful bacteria like Actinobacteria might protect against addiction.</p><p>Interestingly, both humans and mice with food addiction had lower levels of a gut bacteria called Blautia wexlerae.</p><p>When mice were fed with food that helps in Blautia growth , they recovered from food addiction. Giving Blautia wexlerae directly also helped to alleviate food addiction.</p><h5>How can this research help?</h5><p>Some researchers believe the current therapeutic approaches to curing food addiction are ineffective, highlighting the need for better solutions.</p><p>The findings, published in the journal, Gut, suggest that certain gut bacteria could be used as potential treatments for food addiction.
