<h5>What is the history of women’s cricket?</h5>  <p>The game of cricket was born in south-eastern England during the 17th century. The British introduced the game in countries they used to rule over, like North America, the West Indies, Australia, India, etc.
While international men’s cricket began in the 19th century, female cricketers played their first-ever test match in 1934. The founding of the International Women's Cricket Council (IWCC) in 1958 gave women's cricket much-needed attention.
Indian women started playing cricket later than the world. It was in 1973 that the Women’s Cricket Association of India (WCAI) was set up.</p>
<p>In 1995, the Indian women's cricket team secured their first win in a One Day International series. Since then, our female cricketers have performed exceptionally well on the field.
</p> <h5>What is the Women’s Asia Cup?</h5>  <p>The Women’s Asia Cup started as a 50-over ODI series in 2004. The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) organises it. Since 2012, it has been following the T20 format. The competition usually takes place between six teams, though this year saw the participation of seven. </p>

India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Thailand, Maldives, Hong Kong, Nepal, and Malaysia have participated in the Asia Cup. However, India and Bangladesh are the only countries to win the tournament. This year saw India lifting the Asia Cup for the seventh time.
</p> <h5>What is the role of sports in nation-building?</h5>  <p>Sports produce patriotic feelings in us and help unite people from different parts of the country. They also teach us good values, such as healthy competition, leadership, teamwork, and ethical behaviour.</p>
<p>Sportspersons have the power to influence our society because of their large fan followings. By promoting good causes, they can inspire the youth to lead better lives. For instance, Sachin Tendulkar refused to advertise cigarettes and alcohol-related products even after being offered millions of rupees.</p>
<p>The sports industry creates many jobs and helps grow our economy. Sporting events also allow countries to form good relations. The Indian Premier League (IPL) shows how cricket can bring nations closer.
