UPI is a way to pay with your phone. It lets you send money to someone else's bank account right away. The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) launched UPI in 2016. Each UPI user has a special ID called a UPI ID. This ID is a unique identification for a bank account, so they can send or get money from one bank to another.

To send money using UPI, a person must use a UPI-enabled app. First, one must enter the recipient's information, like UPI ID,  registered phone number, or through scanning a QR code. Next, they have to enter how much money they want to send. Then, the bank account from which the money will be deducted has to be selected.

Then, the user enters the UPI PIN to make the payment. Using UPI is easy, but we must be careful when using it.

Why should we be careful while using UPI?

We must keep in mind that UPI transactions are irreversible. That means it cannot be reversed or cancelled once we have successfully sent money to someone. UPI transactions can only be reversed while they are still pending or unsuccessful.

So, it’s important to be very careful when sending money. Always double-check the person's phone number or UPI ID before sending money. Only send money to people or shops you know and ask your parents before using UPI.

If you make a mistake and send money to the wrong person, you can ask them nicely to return it. If they agree, they can use UPI to send it back quickly. If not, you can ask the bank or the UPI app provider for help. But this might take a long time.
