What is the G20?

The Group of Twenty (G20) is an organisation that discusses and works together on the most important global economic issues. Seven countries - Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom (UK), and the United States of America (USA) - founded the G20 in 1999.

The G20 meeting is held every year. Currently, there are 19 countries and the European Union (EU). The countries are Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, the UK, and the USA.

Every year, the G20 presidency is rotated among its members. India took over the G20 presidency from Indonesia recently (yay!).

After the G20 summit ended in Bali, Indonesia, the G20 presidency was handed over to India. From 1st December 2022, India has officially taken over the G20 presidency.

The G20's agenda and activities are set by its rotating Presidency in collaboration with the other members. Similarly, India has created agendas, activities, and a theme.

What is India’s agenda and theme after assuming the presidency?

The G20 presidency of India began with a focus on counter-terrorism and unity in dealing with the economic slowdown and climate change. Startups will also be a focus of India's G20 plans. In September 2023, the G20 Summit will also be held in New Delhi.

Last month, Prime Minister Narendra Modi showed the logo for India's G20 presidency. The logo features a lotus flower and a globe. The theme of India's G20 presidency is "One Earth, One Family, One Future."
