Indian astronaut picked to travel to the ISS!
India is getting ready to send its first citizen to the International Space Station (ISS)!
The ISRO picked Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla to be the astronaut for this super cool mission. If he can’t go, Group Captain Prashanth Balakrishnan Nair will take his place.
This is a big deal because Shukla will be the second Indian to go to space after Rakesh Sharma, who went in 1984, and the first Indian to visit the ISS!
ISRO announced this exciting news as part of the Axiom-4 mission. The mission is planned for any time after October 2024. Let’s get excited and cheer for our space heroes!

Shubhanshu Shukla was born in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. He flies cool planes for the Indian Air Force and is really great at it!
He worked super hard and practised a lot. Now, he’s going to be an astronaut! He will also go on the Gaganyaan space adventure. He’s all set to make the nation proud!
About Axiom-4 mission!

This 14-day mission will take astronauts to the ISS using a SpaceX Crew Dragon spaceship.
India, Poland, Hungary, and the USA are all working together with a private company called Axiom Space. Each country is sending their own astronaut to space!
The mission has some awesome goals:
