<h5>What kind of tests has Israel conducted?</h5><p>Israel has conducted testing of autonomous drones. These drones are capable of carrying passengers and goods. The tests are part of a government-led project called the Israel National Drone Initiative (INDI).</p><p>INDI was established in 2019. It is an experimental project to create a complete national drone network to change the country's delivery system. This first-of-a-kind project is a collaboration between the Transportation Ministry, the Israel Innovation Authority, Ayalon Highways Limited, and the Civil Aviation Authority of Israel (CAAI).</p><p>The project aims to use drones to fly passengers and heavy cargo from one location to another. This will help reduce traffic congestion on Israel's busiest roads and help perform commercial and public services more effectively. This is the second phase of the experiment which began in January 2023. Among the drones tested was the Israeli-made AIR ZERO. This drone can carry up to two people and a total cargo of up to 220 kilogrammes (kgs). It can carry them over a distance of up to 160 kilometres.</p><p>The companies taking part in this project will conduct test flights across the country for one week each month. These test flights will be conducted in regulated airspace. They will cover distances of up to 150 kilometres and carry bigger payloads.</p><p>INDI is also helping develop aerial routes for drones.</p><h5>Why are drone aerial routes being developed?</h5><p>Aerial routes are being developed to properly deploy and monitor the drones operating in the same airspace as manned aircraft. This will ensure that there will be no accidents between drones and manned aircraft.</p><p>Israel has a lot of incoming and outgoing planes. It also has a strong air force that uses planes and helicopters for training and active duty. So, it is necessary to develop these aerial routes.</p><p>The aerial routes will also allow multiple types of drones to fly simultaneously. The drones will be used for healthcare, commerce, security, passenger transportation, etc. INDI has joined hands with the Israeli Air Force, Israel Airports Authority Ltd., and local governments to develop these aerial routes.</p><p>Soon, we might see citizens of Israel travelling to different places using flying taxis.</p><h5>Are drones used in India?</h5><p>Certain Indian companies have tested and used drones for delivery purposes. Tata 1mg launched a drone delivery service in Dehradun to quickly deliver medication by air. In 2021, Telangana became the first state in India to use drones to distribute medicines to remote areas.</p><p>Drones will also be used in Bengaluru to deliver crucial items, such as organs or medical equipment. It seems like drones will be used for <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://www.newsahoot.com/articles/are-drones-the-future-of-home-deliveries">home deliveries</a> in India in the future.</p>
