<h5>What are assembly elections?</h5><p>Elections are held in a democratic country like India to select leaders for the country and its states. People can vote for the candidate they want. The candidate with the most votes wins.</p><p>Assembly elections are those elections that are held in each Indian state to elect members to the state legislative assembly. They are held every five years. People vote for their representatives, and the political party with the most seats forms the government.</p><p>These elections significantly impact a state's economic growth and the lives of its residents. Assembly elections in the state of Karnataka are being held today.</p><h5>When did the Karnataka elections begin?</h5><p>Karnataka assembly elections started today, 10th May 2023. The three major parties taking part in the elections are the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the Indian National Congress (INC), and the Janata Dal (Secular) (JDS). The election results will be announced on 13th May 2023.</p><p>The current Karnataka government will leave on 24th May 2023. The previous election took place in May 2018.</p><h5>What promises have the parties made?</h5><p>The BJP has promised to provide 5 kg of food grains per month, three free cooking gas cylinders per year and half a litre of milk daily to below-poverty line (BPL) households.
