Street food - yummy but unhealthy!

Many people love street food like pani puri and shawarma. They taste really good and make us happy when we eat them. But they are unhealthy!

Recently, Karnataka's food safety department (FSD) took action against food sellers using artificial food colouring and other substances that can cause cancer in their products.

The FSD received complaints from people who got sick after eating certain foods and acted quickly to address the issue.

They checked many food samples and found artificial colours, substances that can cause cancer and bacteria that can make people sick. The samples included popular street foods like pani puri, shawarma, gobi manchurian, etc.

Karnataka’s crackdown begins!

The department has banned the use of artificial colours in foods like gobi manchurian, cotton candy, and chicken kababs.

Food must also be made properly, without using any of the harmful substances. Officers are checking shops to ensure sellers follow these rules and punishing those who don't.

How can we stay safe?

We should pay attention to what we eat and can follow these steps:

  • We should eat only from food vendors who prepare food cleanly. They should use good ingredients, wear gloves, use clean utensils, and wash their hands regularly.
  • We should avoid shops that aren't clean because harmful bacteria grow in dirty places.
  • We should also avoid foods that look too bright, as they might contain artificial colours.

If we do these things, we can sometimes enjoy tasty street food and keep ourselves safe.
