How does plastic affect the world?
Most things in the world are made of plastic - from water bottles and tiffin boxes to mobile phones, laptops, ACs, and many other things.
Plastic is used because it is highly durable. However, because it is durable, plastic can survive thousands of years before finally decomposing. This creates the problem of plastic waste.
Plastic waste gets accumulated and harms the environment. One such area where a large amount of plastic and garbage has accumulated is the Great Pacific Garbage Patch (GPGP).
What is the Great Pacific Garbage Patch (GPGP)?

The GPGP is in the Pacific Ocean. In GPGP, large amounts of plastic waste have been thrown over time. It is bigger than many countries around the globe and is three times bigger than France.
It is believed that GPGP has more than 100 million kg of garbage. But thankfully, some amount of waste was recently removed from the GPGP. Let’s find out who took such a great step.
Who removed the plastic waste from GPGP?

The plastic waste was removed from GPGP by an organisation called The Ocean Cleanup. They removed more than 1,00,000 kg of plastic waste from the GPGP. They used a machine called System 002, also called Jenny, to do it. What they have done is super important. Let’s find out why.
Why was this clean-up so important?
The clean-up of the GPGP is the first among many more such clean-ups. The Ocean Cleanup plans to remove every piece of garbage from the GPGP. Thousands of such clean-ups will be required to achieve this goal.
How can we contribute to protecting our environment?
We must share our knowledge of plastic waste and GPGP with friends and family and raise awareness about plastic waste's harm to the environment. Also, we must always throw garbage in the dustbins only. Only by working together can we save our earth!
