What is this cool new invention?

WasteShark is an invention that is being used to clean up water bodies like rivers and ponds. The name ‘WasteShark’ sounds pretty cool, right?

The WasteShark doesn’t exactly look like a shark. However, its mouth is long and wide like that of a large whale shark. While whale sharks eat small fish, the WasteShark is a robot that eats plastic waste! Along with plastic, it also eats up leaves, cans and other waste that people litter the river with.

It runs on electricity. It can swim in the river for 6-8 hours! And can swallow up about  21,000 plastic bottles.

Other cool features of the WasteShark!

The WasteShark can work in two ways - either it can freely move around on its own or it can be controlled by humans through a remote.

The new robotic shark is smart too! It gathers information from its surroundings through its special cameras. WasteShark also collects data about plants found in the river. This information helps us find out more about the health of the river.

Once the WasteShark swallows the waste from the river and stores it in its bin. The WasteShark holds the waste safely until it can be recycled.

The WasteShark currently floats around on the river Thames in London, England.

Biomass such as fallen leaves and twigs are also picked up by the WasteShark.
How will WasteShark really make a difference?

Thanks to creations like WasteShark, water bodies can be cleaned up without the help of human beings at all. The WasteShark doesn’t need any fuel to keep moving (only electricity!). It is very environment-friendly. Through this technology, we can clean up rivers and ponds faster and better than ever before.

The amazing WasteShark is already being used in places  Paris, Singapore, South Africa and the United States.
