<h5>Spacesuit from the future!</h5>Turning urine into drinking water? Gross, right? But it's true! Scientists have found a cool way to help astronauts stay hydrated in space.Spacesuits are crucial for astronauts, giving them oxygen to breathe and protecting them from the harsh outer space environment.Right now, they carry one litre of water in their spacesuit drink bags. But that's not enough if they spend hours on the lunar spacewalk. So, the scientists at Cornell University came up with a unique solution.Astronauts already use disposable diapers inside their spacesuits to relieve themselves. What if that urine could be turned into drinking water?Well, scientists have developed a device that can be attached to spacesuits to convert urine into safe drinking water.<h5>How is urine converted into water?</h5><figure class="image"><img alt="Device.jpg" src="https://storage.googleapis.com/newsahoot.appspot.com/Device_172e74d272.jpg"><figcaption>What the device can look like. The cup is a part of an undergarment that will prevent any leakage. When the astronaut starts to urinate, a pump automatically turns on to collect the liquid.Once collected, the urine is sent to a filtration system to be converted into drinking water.The filtration process involves two steps:<ol><li>Reverse osmosis: Water is extracted from the urine using pressure to push it through a special filter that removes most impurities.</li><li>Salt removal and enrichment: A pump removes salt from the water. Then electrolytes are added to the water before it goes into the in-suit drink bag for consumption.</li></ol>This process of collecting and purifying 500 ml of urine takes about five minutes!
