Orcas Boat Attack Mystery Solved

Orcas are attacking boats?!

In recent years, [[orcas::Also called killer whale. It is a toothed whale and is black and white in colour. They are also very intelligent.]] have been ramming and sinking boats in the Strait of Gibraltar, confusing boat owners, sailors, and scientists.

Many theories have come up about the reason behind it. Some say food [[scarcity::A lack or shortage of something.]] made orcas think boats were taking their food, while others think the increase in boats, ships, and sea-related activities after the [[pandemic::A disease that spreads throughout a whole nation or the entire world.]] might be the reason.

Scientists have solved the mystery behind why an orca group is smashing boats.

No, it's not a war declared by orcas against humans. It appears to be playful behaviour, particularly among the younger orcas.

Scientists found that young orcas' curiosity, free time, and playfulness led them to start this [[trend::A new development in clothing styles, behaviour, etc., that is being followed by many.]], with others picking it up.

Scientists also believe the tuna population (a food orcas eat) has increased. This has reduced their hunting time, and in their free time, they are attacking boats. Luckily, no human has been hurt.

Orcas tend to pick up trends!

Orcas are known for copying each other's odd behaviours and forgetting them with time.
For example, in the past, orca populations were once seen wearing dead salmon as hats just because others were doing it.

However, their new trend is causing damage, and boat owners hope it ends soon.

Quick Revision

  • Orcas have been hitting boats in the Strait of Gibraltar.

  • Scientists found they are not angry — just playing, especially young orcas.

  • More tuna means less hunting, so they have extra free time.

  • Orcas copy each other’s habits, and this became a trend.

  • Boats are damaged, but no people were hurt.
