Heartbreak for Vinesh Phogat!

Vinesh Phogat, an Indian wrestler, was having an amazing time at the Paris 2024 Olympics! She was in the final match of the women’s 50 kg wrestling. No other Indian woman had made it this far before!

She beat many strong wrestlers, even the champion from Japan, Yui Susaki. Everyone in India was cheering for her, hoping she would win the country's first gold medal!

But on the morning of her big match, something bad happened. Phogat was only 100 grams over the weight limit!

This meant she was disqualified from the final and finished last in the event. It is sad because she had worked so hard and was so close to winning.

Vinesh Phogat is a superstar wrestler who has won many medals and made the nation proud! She worked very hard and became the first Indian woman to qualify for the Olympics three times!

She previously led a protest against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, the former head of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI), who was accused of harassing female wrestlers.

Even though it was hard, she and her friends kept fighting for what was right. In the end, Singh was removed from his post.

Phogat’s story shows how strong and brave she is. It also teaches us that working hard can help you achieve amazing things!

Reactions to the disqualification!

Some people thought it wasn’t fair to disqualify Vinesh Phogat. The Indian Olympic Association also appealed against the decision.

Even though Phogat didn’t get a medal, lots of people still cheer for her. They say she is a hero who shines bright for India!
