<h5>About Paralympics 2024.</h5>The Paralympic Games are an international sports event where athletes with disabilities demonstrate their remarkable abilities. This competition helps challenge societal perception about disabilities and promotes inclusivity in sports.The first Paralympic games were held in 1960 in Rome, Italy. Since then, they have been held every four years.The Paralympics are hosted in the same city that hosts the Olympics, typically starting a few days after the conclusion of the Olympic Games. This year’s event is being held from 28th August 2024 to 8th September 2024.<h5>Indians win many medals.</h5>Eighty-four para-athletes are representing India at the Paris 2024 Paralympics. They are competing across 12 disciplines.While writing this, India has already won seven medals (one gold, two silver, four bronze) and is ranked 27th on the medal table.The winners are:Avani Lekhara: The talented youngster has won the gold medal in the Women's 10m air rifle standing SH1. She became the first Indian woman to win two gold medals in the Games' history, having won gold in the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics. The 22-year-old was paralysed below the waist due to a car accident at age 11, but that didn’t stop her from achieving great success in para-shooting competitions.<figure class="image"><img src="https://storage.googleapis.com/newsahoot.appspot.com/Avani_e2df14153b.jpg" alt="Avani.jpg"><figcaption>Avani Lekhara (left) and Mona Agarwal (right). Born in Rajasthan, she contracted polio at just nine months old, affecting both her lower limbs. Photo by Mithali Raj.</figcaption></figure>Preethi Pal: She won bronze medals in the Women's 100m T35 and 200m T35 races, becoming the first Indian woman to win two Paralympic medals in track and field events. She was born in September 2000 and has suffered from weak legs and an irregular leg posture since childhood. She suffers from leg dysfunction, but her father supported her passion for this sport. Photo by Amit Shah.</figcaption></figure>Nishad Kumar: He won the silver medal in the men's high jump T47 category. He had earlier won a silver at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics. He had lost his right hand during an accident at the age of six. Still, his mother inspired him to take up sports, and with hard work and dedication, he has made the nation proud.With a few more days until the event finishes, let’s hope the Indian athletes can win a few more medals for the country.<h5>The medal’s table.</h5>As of this writing, the People's Republic of China tops the medal table with 73 medals (34 gold, 27 silver, 12 bronze). Great Britain holds second place, followed by the USA in third. India currently ranks 27th on the medal table.
