Leftover food causes food wastage!
We eat food to stay healthy and happy. But, sometimes, we have to deal with [[leftover food::Any food that remains unused or uneaten after it has been cooked]]. Usually, we throw it away, which is not good and [[wasteful::Using more of anything than is necessary, which causes us to throw the thing out, causing wastage.]].
Thankfully, Pahang (a Malaysian state) has found a unique solution to reduce wastage.
What is being done in the state?

In Malaysia, a lot of leftover food gets thrown away, especially during Ramadan, as people cook more food than they can eat.
So, the state is using a machine to turn leftover food into [[organic fertiliser::Any natural material that is used to make fertiliser. Unlike chemical fertilisers, which are chemically generated, organic fertilisers are made from organic matter such as compost, manure, leftover food, etc. Fertiliser is a substance that is added to the soil to improve the growth of plants.]] for crops. People put their leftovers in the machine. Then, the machine mixes it with other things to make fertiliser.
Sadly, the amount of fertiliser created by the machine using leftover food is too small [[compared::To examine two or more items or situations to find differences or similarities between them.]] to the amount of food sent to [[landfills::An area of land where vast amounts of waste material are buried under the soil.]]. Hopefully, more machines will be used to reduce food wastage further.
What can we do?
Remember only to take the amount of food you can eat. Don't take too much and throw it away.
You can also help store food carefully so it doesn't spoil. If foods spoil, we have to throw them away, which is wasteful.
We must try using leftover food to make new meals. For example, leftover veggies can be used in a sandwich. These are some steps you can take to reduce food wastage.
Quick Revision
People often waste leftover food, especially in Pahang, Malaysia during Ramadan.
The state uses a machine to turn leftover food into fertiliser.
But the fertiliser made is very little compared to all the food thrown away.
We can help by taking only what we eat, storing food well, and reusing leftovers.
