What is a skyscraper?
The human population is growing very fast. Humans now require more space to live, study, work, and do other things. To fulfil our need for space, more buildings are being built.
Some of these buildings are extremely tall and have more than ten (sometimes even twenty) floors. These tall buildings are known as skyscrapers.
To know more about the skyscrapers, let’s learn about their history.
What is the history of skyscrapers?
The world’s first skyscraper was built in Chicago in 1885. After that, many skyscrapers were built in the USA and eventually worldwide. Recently, Saudi Arabia announced that it will build two very big skyscrapers. The two skyscrapers are part of the project known as The Mirror Line. Let’s find out more about it.
How is Saudi Arabia’s skyscraper different from other skyscrapers?

Saudi Arabia plans to build two skyscrapers with a height of 1,600 feet. Also, these two skyscrapers will run sideways for 120 km. This project will cost Saudi Arabia at least a whopping $1 trillion! The two skyscrapers will be built in the city of Neom. They will be constructed by cutting through a mountain range.
What facilities are going to be available for the residents?

The residents of the two skyscrapers will have a lot of modern facilities like schools, restaurants, hospitals, etc. But what’s even cooler is that there will be high-speed trains running below the two buildings for travelling between the two buildings. There will also be a stadium built at a height of 1,000 feet!
What are the issues that the planners might face?
The government of Saudi Arabia has set a deadline for 2030 but experts say it will be extremely difficult to complete the construction by then. Also, the project might harm the local environment and wildlife. Despite everything, the entire project seems like a huge science project! What do you think? Would you like to live on the Mirror Line?
