<h5>When did Prime Minister Narendra Modi visit US?</h5><p>Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi visited the United States of America (USA) from 21st June 2023 to 24th June 2023. After landing at JFK Airport in New York, USA, he was greeted by top US officials and a group of Indian-Americans.</p><p>He had earlier visited the USA, but they were all ‘official visits.’ The present one is his first official ‘state visit’ to the country. State visits are the highest form of bilateral relations between the United States and other countries.</p><p>That’s why state visits are reserved for foreign heads of state. PM Modi is the Indian government's leader. That is why his visit is a state visit. A state dinner is organised for the individual, with a meal and decorations that pay tribute to the guest's culture. The person also spends the night at the White House as a guest of the US President.</p><p>The state visit shows the US's respect for the visiting leader's country and the close relationship between both countries.</p><h5>Why was this visit important for the India-US relationship?</h5><p>PM Modi visiting the USA was not a mere holiday. His visit was crucial for India. Some significant announcements were made to better the India-US relationship. The US government will make it easier for Indians to live and work in the USA.</p><p>An Indian solar panel maker company, Vikram Solar, will invest in the US to boost the country’s clean energy manufacturing industry. General Electric's aerospace unit made a deal with India's Hindustan Aeronautics to produce fighter aircraft engines for the Indian Air Force. India's defence ministry also approved the purchase of armed drones from the USA.</p><p>India also made deals related to space exploration and will collaborate with NASA for a combined mission to the <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://www.newsahoot.com/articles/what-is-the-purpose-of-the-international-space-station">International Space Station</a> in 2024. PM Modi also met with important figures like <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://www.newsahoot.com/articles/who-is-elon-musk">Elon Musk</a>. Similarly, PM Modi gifted some items to the US President, Joe Biden. He was also treated to a state dinner.</p><h5>What gifts did PM Modi take with him?</h5><p>US President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden welcomed PM Modi to the White House. He gifted President Biden a handcrafted sandalwood box containing a silver idol of Lord Ganesha, a diya (oil lamp), etc. He also gave the First Lady a lab-grown diamond.</p><p>The Bidens presented PM Modi with a vintage American camera, a book of American wildlife photography, and a signed, first-edition copy of Collected Poems of Robert Frost.</p><p>On 22nd June 2023, a state dinner was also organised for PM Modi. 380 guests were invited to the dinner. The guest list included famous personalities like Mukesh Ambani, Apple’s head Tim Cook, Google’s head Sundar Pichayi, etc.</p><p>For the first time in recent history, the dinner at the White House was completely plant-based with no meat or egg dishes.
