How are Afghanistan and the Taliban related?

Afghanistan is located next to Pakistan near India. Taliban (which means ‘students’) is a group of terrorists. They believe that women must be fully covered and should not study, work or even travel alone. They also believe in cruel ways of punishment.

In 1995, the Taliban overthrew the government by offering peace and security to the people of Afghanistan. They controlled most of Afghanistan by 2001. In September 2001, The Taliban was accused of providing shelter to terrorists who attacked the United States. The United States sent soldiers to Afghanistan to remove the Taliban.

How did the Taliban come back?

Over the years, the struggle between the Taliban and Afghanistan continued. In 2020, Donald Trump, Former President of the United States of America announced that the United States would call back all its troops from Afghanistan by August 2021. In exchange, the Taliban agreed not to allow any terrorist activity in areas under their control.

Without the troops of the United States, the Taliban quickly took control of Afghanistan. The security forces of Afghanistan were not prepared for such a strong fight with the Taliban.

What’s next for the people of the Taliban and Afghanistan?

The Taliban wants itself to be recognised as the official government of Afghanistan by other nations in the region. This will allow the Taliban to discuss trade and defence matters with other nations.

The future of the people of Afghanistan is unclear. The Taliban has promised that women will be allowed to work. However, many people do not believe in the Taliban.

Many students, especially girls, continue studying in secret. While many are looking for ways to escape the country, some locals have expressed happiness that the war is over and the country can now focus on its progress.
