Teenager Designs Robot To Help Grandparents

Meet Nikhil Lemos and his invention!

Nikhil Lemos is a 15-year-old kid from Vadodara, Gujarat. He studies in Class 11. He has made a mini-robot called ā€˜Meditel’ to help people remember to take their medicines.

He noticed they often forgot to take their medicines. Hence, he created the robot ā€˜Meditel’ to help his grandparents.

Lemos’ robot received praise from many, including football legend David Beckham, at aĀ [[UNICEF::Stands for United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund. It is an organisation of the United Nations that helps protect children’s rights, save the lives of children, etc.]]Ā event.

Tell me more about the robot!

At first, Nikhil Lemos wanted to build an alarm to remind people to take their pills. But he saw that his grandmotherĀ [[postponed::To delay an event and plan for it to take place at a later day or time than the original date on which it was supposed to be held.]]Ā taking her medicine if there was no water nearby.

So, he decided to add more features to Meditel, which are:

  1. SmartĀ Alarm System:Ā Alerts users when it's time to take their medicines.

  2. Handy Water Bottle:Ā Ensures users always have water nearby for their pills.

  3. Pill Organiser:Ā Helps manage multiple doses effortlessly.

The robot’s future!

The Gujarat UniversityĀ [[Startup::A company that has just begun.]]Ā andĀ [[Entrepreneurship::The action of producing money by creating or maintaining businesses from scratch.]]Ā Council (GUSEC) is helping Nikhil Lemos improve his robot.

The robot's design will be improved before the manufacturing process starts. Plans are to patent the product and release it for people to use as soon as possible.

What does patenting a product mean?

Patenting a product means gettingĀ [[legal protection::It means certain rules and laws to keep people safe.]]Ā for a product you made. This means only you can make, sell, and use your product.

If you patent a new robot, you will get a certificate saying that only you can make and sell the robot. If someone else tries to copy or sell it without your permission, you can use the law to stop them.
