Is human life possible beyond Earth?
Scientists have discovered many planets that may support human life. But, there’s no concrete proof that humans can live on those planets. Recently, scientists at the University of California (UCLA) have discovered places on the moon that can support human life. Let’s read some more about it!
Wait. Why would we want to move to the moon in the first place?
Scientists are looking for alternatives to the Earth because of several reasons. Two major reasons are climate change and overpopulation. The Earth is getting warmer every year due to greenhouse gases. In a few thousand years, it may become too hot for humans to live on.
The number of people living on the Earth is also increasing very fast. More people means more houses, roads, drinking water, etc. This will force us to use the Earth’s natural resources even faster.
If the Earth becomes uninhabitable due to these reasons, could the moon become the next best option? Let’s find out!
Okay. So how soon can we move to the moon?
Scientists have just discovered pits on the moon where the temperature remains around 17.2° Celsius throughout the day. That’s the temperature at which you wear a thin jacket to feel comfortable! Scientists believe that these pits can be used for setting up camps. These camps will allow humans to stay on the moon for longer periods of time. This discovery is amazing because humans cannot survive on other areas of the moon since they are too hot or too cold.
So, what exactly are moon pits?

Moon pits are holes on the moon’s surface and were discovered in 2009. They are of different sizes. The maximum number of moon pits have been found in an area called “lunar maria”.
Can humans ever live on the moon permanently?
Not yet. But hopefully in the near future! Staying on the moon permanently requires us to solve many problems other than temperature. Once travelling to the moon and living on it is possible, would you like to take a short vacation there?
