Lahore takes the top spot!
Wow, did you hear the news? Lahore, a big city in Pakistan, recently became the most polluted city in the world! On 3rd November 2024, the air in Lahore became very dirty, with an air quality index (AQI) of 1,900.
That’s really high - six times worse than what is safe to breathe! Because of this, the government had to act quickly. Schools were closed, and people were told to stay home and shut all doors and windows.
The government also stopped rickshaws (three-wheel taxis) and construction to make the air cleaner.
India blamed for the increase!
Some people in Pakistan say that air pollution also comes from India. They believe the wind brings smoke from firecrackers and crop burning from India to Lahore.
But others think the pollution is also caused by Pakistan’s cars and traffic. Pakistan wants to talk to India and work together to fix the problem.
Steps to protect yourself from air pollution.
Air pollution is not just a problem in Pakistan; it’s a problem in India, too. Here’s how you can protect yourself:
Stay indoors on days when the air is bad.
Avoid outdoor exercise when there’s a lot of pollution.
If you have asthma, always carry your inhaler.
Wear a mask when you go outside.
Keep plants like aloe vera at home to help clean the air.
Use air purifiers, especially for children, pregnant women, and older people.
