<h5>What is a cyclone?</h5><p>A cyclone is a big storm that forms over warm oceans. Cyclones are created when the warm air above the ocean rises up. When this happens, more warm air rushes in to fill the space. The water in the air forms clouds as the warm air cools. The clouds start spinning because of the wind. After some time, they spin faster, and a cyclone is created.</p><p>Cyclones bring heavy rain and strong wind when they reach the land. The wind can cause a lot of damage to buildings, trees, and other things in its path. Recently, weather warnings have been issued as Cyclone Biparjoy approaches India.</p><h5>When is this cyclone expected to reach India?</h5><p>Cyclone Biparjoy is expected to reach India today evening, on 15th June 2023. It will make landfall in Gujarat's Saurashtra and Kutch regions and along the shores of Pakistan.</p><p>The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has given a warning for several states: Gujarat, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Goa, Daman &amp; Diu, Lakshadweep, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli.</p><p>The IMD also said that Gujarat will experience heavy to extremely heavy rainfall. On 16th June 2023, there will be heavy rain in some parts of north Gujarat and south Rajasthan. Photo by PIB India.</figcaption></figure><h5>What precautions are being taken?</h5><p>On 13th June 2023, the Gujarat government moved 37,800 people from the coastal areas to temporary shelters to keep them safe. Many National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams and the army are prepared to help the citizens.</p><figure class="image"><img src="https://firebasestorage.googleapis.com/v0/b/newsahoot.appspot.com/o/warnings-issued-as-cyclone-biparjoy-approaches%2FBiparjoy%203.jfif?alt=media&amp;token=0656fcde-1b3f-454b-ac36-0f76d46563d1"><figcaption>People moved to safer locations due to Cyclone Biparjoy. Union Minister Amit Shah asked the Gujarat state government to move people along the coast to safer places.</p><p>The government is also making sure that essential services like healthcare, clean drinking water, and communication access are available to those who might be affected by the cyclone.</p><h5>How can one protect themselves from cyclones?</h5><p>Before the cyclone arrives, one must examine their house, fasten any loose tiles, and repair doors and windows. One must keep battery-powered torches nearby in case the power goes out. It's also a good idea to have some dry food that can last a long time. If a strong cyclone is coming, it's best to leave and go to a safe place if the government says so.</p><p>One must make sure that they have important phone numbers ready in case they need to call for help. The government usually has places where one can stay during a cyclone. The path to those shelters must be remembered. One must keep listening to the government for updates about the cyclone and evacuation instructions.&nbsp;</p><p>Let's hope that people in the affected areas stay safe from the coming cyclone.</p>
