What is waste management and why is it important?
Waste management is the process of disposing of garbage so that it does not pollute the environment. There are two types of garbage - organic and inorganic.
Organic waste is anything that decomposes naturally. If a banana peel is buried in soil, it will slowly become a part of the soil. This makes getting rid of such waste easy and environment-friendly.
Inorganic waste doesn’t ever decompose. Garbage like plastic or old phones and computers will remain on the Earth forever, making our planet dirtier and dirtier.
What will happen if we don’t dispose of garbage properly?
Imagine if we keep collecting garbage without proper waste management. In a few years, our city will be covered in trash. Garbage does not disappear by itself. The government usually finds new ways to deal with it.
Have you seen a trash-collecting vehicle coming to your home daily? They collect garbage from people’s homes and then sort through the waste to separate different types of trash.
The organic waste is sometimes buried deep in the earth. This is called a landfill. Inorganic waste like plastic is sometimes used to make new roads. Old electronics are either used to make new products or sold to other countries.
How can we responsibly dispose of garbage?
Responsible garbage disposal is important for clean surroundings. We can reduce waste at home to help with better waste management.
Avoid buying things online to reduce garbage like delivery boxes. Reuse things to make sure they are not thrown away after using them only once. For example, reusable steel straws are better than plastic “use and throw” straws.
You can also avoid using plastic bags while shopping. Remember, disposable items are bad for the environment. We should also find a new use for things that are thrown. You must have seen your mom using old clothes as dusters to clean the house. That’s called recycling.
We should dispose of our garbage responsibly to maintain a healthy, trash-free environment.
