<h5>Indonesia’s new meal program.</h5><p>Indonesia’s president-elect, Prabowo Subianto, has launched the Free Nutritious Meal Program for school students.</p><p>This initiative intends to raise intelligent children, boost the regional economy, empower micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), and improve human resources.</p><p>This program will begin on 2nd January 2025 and will be managed by the newly established National Nutrition Agency.</p><p>The program aims to target pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, young children, and students from early childhood education to high school, including both general and religious schools. It is expected to be fully implemented by 2029.</p><h5>How will this initiative help?</h5><p>Under this program, nutritious meals and free milk will be provided to the students, and nutritional support will be provided for toddlers and pregnant women whose children face the risk of stunting.</p><p>This initiative will improve students' health, attendance, and academic achievement while lowering dropout rates. This will help kids become educated, and when they grow up, they can help develop the nation further.</p><p>This program will also involve local MSMEs as meal providers and help create jobs. Many workers are also expected to be involved in its implementation.</p><p>So, this program will boost the economy as the MSMEs will work as food providers, allowing these organisations to earn money while creating jobs for those preparing and delivering meals. He will take over from outgoing President Joko Widodo as the country’s new leader in October 2024.</p><p>Subianto is a former special forces commander who was once accused of human rights violations and was dismissed from the military for the allegations.</p><p>Still, he has been elected president and promises to develop the country further and work for its betterment.</p>
