Government formation!
On 4th June 2024, the results of the Lok Sabha election were declared.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won 240 seats, making it the largest party, followed by the Indian National Congress (INC) with 99 seats.
Both parties also lead alliances: BJP leads the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), while Congress leads the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (I.N.D.I.A.).

Is Narendra Modi the next Prime Minister?

It's likely, but not certain. The Lok Sabha has 543 seats or Members of Parliament (MPs). To appoint a Prime Minister, a party or alliance needs at least 272 MPs' support.
Last time, the BJP had 300+ seats, ensuring Narendra Modi's PM position. Now with 240 seats, they require support from other parties (including those in the NDA) to reach 272.
Each party will have demands to support the BJP in forming the government. If unhappy, they may join INC or its alliance.
If that happens, the I.N.D.I.A may form the government with Rahul Gandhi or another alliance leader as PM!
Update: The parties in the NDA have elected Narendra Modi as their leader, and it seems like he will again take up the role of the Prime Minister of India.

Update 2: Narendra Modi has taken oath as the country’s PM in a ceremony held at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.
