The Hoot Hour - Ep.13.

This week’s episode of ‘The Hoot Hour’ featured a debate on the topic – Is Social Media Bad for Kids?

Our speakers discussed the pros and cons of the most popular social media sites, their role in fostering human connections, their addictive nature, the issue of social comparison, and healthy ways to use social media.

While Parnika, Payal, and Khwahish spoke for the motion, Bhavya, Divyanshi, and Geetanshi spoke against it. They were put in three groups of two participants each. Every group debated on two topics related to social media.

The discussion opened with our first group, Divyanshi and Khwahish, debating the good and bad sides of Instagram. The second group, Payal and Bhavya, spoke about the advantages and disadvantages of using Facebook, while the third group, Parnika and Geetanshi, shared their opposing views on YouTube.

The second round of debate focused on some general issues related to social media use. Our first group spoke about social media's role in building connections but also opening youngsters up to cyber-crime. Our second group discussed the addictive nature of social media and its impact on young people. Our third group talked about the issue of social comparison.

The episode ended with the participants sharing their personal experiences of getting addicted to social media and the strategies they used to overcome it. They also suggested methods that can be adopted to make the best use of social media!
