An awesome animated journey into the multiverse of spidermen! This movie was released in 2018.
The movie revolves around the story of Miles Morales, a teenage boy living in the Spanish neighbourhood of Brooklyn, New York City. His mother is a nurse, while his father is a law-abiding policeman. Miles’ father disapproves of the methods used by NYC’s resident superhero, Spiderman, to save people’s lives. Miles is closer to his “cool” Uncle Aaron than his strict father.
But Miles' life takes a complete turn when one night, while he’s out with Uncle Aaron, he gets bitten by a radioactive spider. And just like that, New York gets its second Spiderman.
While dealing with the weird (and awesome) changes happening in his body, Miles unwittingly witnesses Peter Parker (the original Spiderman) being murdered by the rich and powerful villain Kingpin. Before dying, Spiderman gives Miles the responsibility to stop Kingpin’s evil plan that could connect various alternate universes and bring about the end of the world.
The inexperienced and under-confident Miles is clueless about how to keep his promise. He doesn’t know how to be Spiderman! But all is not lost, as he soon finds help coming his way from different alternate universes. Who are these people? How do they help Miles? Will they be able to defeat Kingpin? You have to see the movie to find out.
The Positives
‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’ is an animated film with extraordinary animation. It looks like a comic book has come to life. The characters, the scenes, and the internal monologues presented through message clouds, completely immerse you in the world of Spiderman comics.
The story is full of surprising twists and turns. Although the main storyline is quite predictable, the way they show Miles overcoming his problem is quite engaging. The villains are deadly in nature and plenty in number. The chasing scenes do keep you on the edge of your seat. There are several characters, in addition to Miles, that you will want to root for!
The Negatives
The concept of multiverses and quantum theory might be slightly too complex for some people. The real function of Kingpin’s collider machine may also be unclear to younger viewers.
Since the movie features many Marvel characters, it may be difficult for some people to understand their character history and motivations, mainly because it’s not a conventional origin story. This is especially true for the villains.
Conclusion
‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’ is a very entertaining watch! Whether you are an avid comic book fan or not, the movie will keep you glued to your screens and make you feel a thousand different emotions. The film also leaves you with important social messages about corporate greed, self-belief, and the importance of family and friends in our lives.
We give ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’ 3.5 hoots out of 5. There is a second part in this movie series that was recently released. Consider also watching ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’ (the second part) if you like this one!
