Cricket Is Back in the Olympics!
Cricket is coming back to the Olympic Games after 128 years!
It will be part of the 2028 [[Summer Olympics::The big international sports event held every four years in summer]] in Los Angeles (LA), USA.
The last time cricket was played in the Olympics was in 1900, in Paris, France. Only two teams played, [[Great Britain::The team from England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland that played in 1900]] and France, and Britain won that match.
Now, cricket will return in a fun, fast new way.
How Will It Be Played?
In the 2028 Olympics, cricket will be played in a short format called T20 or Twenty20.
Each team gets to play 20 overs (120 balls) to score runs. The team with the most runs wins the match.
The game takes about 3 hours to finish. It is full of big hits like fours and sixes and is easy to enjoy!
There will be 6 men’s teams and 6 women’s teams. Teams will win gold, silver, and bronze medals just like in other Olympic sports.
Which Countries Will Play?
Only six countries can play in the tournament.
One team will be chosen from each [[big region::A large area of the world with shared features or location]]: Asia, Europe, Africa, [[Oceania::The part of the world that includes Australia and nearby islands]], and the [[Americas::The continents of North and South America together]].
These will likely include India, Great Britain, South Africa, Australia, and the USA. The USA is automatically chosen because it is the host.
The last spot will go to a team that wins a special tournament. Strong teams like New Zealand, Pakistan, or Bangladesh could win.
There is a special case of the West Indies.
It is a group of many countries, like Jamaica and Barbados, which together play cricket.
However, only one country can go to the Olympics, so they will play a smaller game among themselves to choose one team.
When and Where Will It Happen?
The matches will be held from July 12th to July 29th, 2028.
All games will happen at the [[Fairplex Stadium::he temporary stadium built in Pomona for the 2028 Games]] in Pomona, about 50 kilometers from the city of Los Angeles.
The women’s final will be on July 20th and the men’s final on July 29th.
