A protest for fair power
In October 2025, people across the United States joined big peaceful marches called the “No Kings” protests. These rallies happened in all 50 states. Millions of people walked together with posters saying “Power to the People” and “No One Is Above the Law.”
Their main message was simple: The country should be ruled by laws and democracy, not by one person acting like a king.
What are these protests?
The No Kings movement was started by many groups working together. They included [[Indivisible::A group in the United States that encourages people to stand up for democracy, fairness, and equal rights, especially after the 2016 elections.]], which helps people learn how to protest safely and talk to their leaders, and the 50501 Movement, which means 50 protests, 50 states, 1 goal.
Teachers, workers, students, and families also took part. They wanted to show that in a democracy, leaders must listen to the people who elect them.
Why did the people protest?
The protests began because many Americans were unhappy with some government actions. For example, there were [[immigration raids::Actions by government officers to find and sometimes arrest people living in the country without legal papers.]], talks of ending [[birthright citizenship::rule that says anyone born in a country automatically becomes a citizen of that country.]], and the use of [[federal troops::Soldiers who work for the national government and can be sent to help keep peace or enforce laws anywhere in the country.]] in some cities.
Protesters believed these steps gave too much power to the president. They wanted to protect the Constitution and keep equal rights for everyone.
Response by the government
The government reacted in different ways. Some leaders supported the protests, saying it was the people’s right to speak up. Others criticized them and said they were not needed.
In some cities, courts stopped some government orders because they might break the law.
Even though the protests were large, most stayed peaceful.
What does it show?
The No Kings protests showed that people can bring change without violence. It may take time, but such movements remind everyone that freedom, equality, and law keep a democracy strong.
When people speak up peacefully, they help protect their country’s future.
