A Beloved Scientist
Jane Goodall, one of the most loved scientists in the world, passed away on 1st October 2025. She was 91 years old and died peacefully while visiting the United States. People everywhere are remembering her for her kindness, bravery, and her life’s work to protect animals, especially chimpanzees.
Who Was She?
Jane Goodall was born in London in 1934. When she was a little girl, she loved animals and wanted to learn more about them. She dreamed of going to Africa to see animals living freely in nature. Jane was not a scientist at first. But because she loved animals so much and watched them very carefully, she became one of the most famous animal researchers in the world.
She studied chimpanzees in Gombe National Park in Tanzania, Africa. Chimpanzees are animals that are very close to humans. Her work began in 1960 and continued for many years.

What Did She Do?
Jane spent many years watching chimpanzees in the forest and made some amazing discoveries. She saw that chimpanzees could use sticks as tools to catch insects called termites. Before this, scientists thought that only humans could use tools! Jane also saw that chimpanzees care for each other and feel emotions like love and sadness. She gave every chimp a name instead of a number because she believed each one was special.
In 1977, Jane started the Jane Goodall Institute to help animals and forests. Later, she began Roots & Shoots, a program that helps children and young people protect animals, people, and the Earth.
Awards and Recognition
Jane received many famous awards. She was a United Nations Messenger of Peace, won the Templeton Prize, and got the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2025. She was also given the title Dame in Britain.
