UK’s new pet food!
Did you know the United Kingdom (UK) is the first country in Europe to allow lab-grown or cultivated meat? But it’s not for people—it’s for pets! A new dog treat called Chick Bites is now in some stores.
But here’s the fun part—Chick Bites is not made from real chicken! Instead, scientists take a tiny cell from a chicken egg, grow it in a lab, and mix it with plants. This makes a tasty and healthy snack for dogs.
The company, Meatly, says one small egg cell can grow enough food for pets for years!

What is cultivated meat?
Cultivated or cultured meat is real meat, but it doesn’t come from farm animals. Scientists grow it from tiny animal cells in a clean, safe lab. It looks, cooks, and tastes like real meat.
Making it uses less water and land and no animals are harmed!
How does it work? Scientists take animal cells and grow them in big tanks. The cells get oxygen, vitamins, and nutrients, just like inside a real animal. After a few weeks, the meat is ready to eat!
Benefits of cultivated meat.
Better for the planet – Uses less land and water than normal meat farming.
Safer to eat – Made in a clean lab, with no harmful bacteria.
No animal cruelty – No animals are harmed!
But some people worry about electricity use in labs. Scientists say that if labs use clean energy, this could be better than regular farming!
Some are banning it.
Some places have banned lab-grown meat. Countries like Italy and U.S. states like Alabama and Florida don’t allow it.
Why? Farmers worry about their jobs. Some people think lab-made meat is strange and it’s still expensive to make.
