Taliban Bans Education for Afghan Women
What is the Taliban?

The Taliban, a group of terrorists whose name means "students" in Pashto, has been controlling Afghanistan. They believe that women should not go to school, work, or even leave their homes alone.

The American army had been protecting Afghanistan from the Taliban. Once they left in 2021, the Taliban moved quickly to overthrow the government. The Taliban promised to protect women's rights and allow them to work and attend school this time. However, that didn’t happen.

As soon as they took control, the Taliban declared that women were not allowed to drive cars or even complete their secondary education after class six. No woman was allowed to leave the house unaccompanied by a man. Recently, they have imposed some additional bans on women.

Recently, the Taliban banned women from attending college. This has angered people all across the world. Since the Taliban returned, girls have already been prohibited from attending secondary schools.

With this new rule, Afghanistan returned to the Taliban's first control when girls were denied access to education. The Taliban constantly reduced the rights of women in the country, despite their promises not to do so.

What is the reaction from others regarding this decision?

This action has drawn criticism from the European Union (EU), the United Nations (UN), and several other nations, including Qatar and the United States of America (USA). India also expressed its disapproval of this new rule of the Taliban.

Some women protested in Kabul. However, Taliban officials immediately put an end to the protests. Saudi Arabia also criticised the Taliban for making this decision and has asked the Taliban to reverse it.

What did we learn from this article?

We learned that a government driven by outdated ideas will never be good for a nation and its people. Afghan women have good reason to be angry. They were able to study, work, drive, and live their lives as they wanted for a very long time before being forced to do things they didn't want to do.

Let’s hope that the Taliban reverses this decision and allows women to get a proper education.
