Thailand, a major plastic importer from wealthy nations, has had enough now.

Thailand Stops Importing Plastic Waste
Waste Colonialism- A Modern Environmental Crisis

Rich countries make too much plastic waste. It is expensive and takes up space. Instead of fixing the problem, they send the waste to poorer countries. This is called waste colonialism.

Rich countries send their trash, especially plastic, to poorer countries. These countries do not have good ways to manage waste, but they still take it. This gives people jobs, but it also causes pollution and makes people sick.

Why does it occur?

Plastic waste is hard to recycle. Rich countries want a cheap and easy solution. So, they send their waste to other countries. In places like Thailand, workers get paid less, so recycling costs less money. Rich countries save money and look "green."

Poorer countries take waste because it brings jobs. Some companies recycle plastic and sell it. But not all plastic can be used again. Some factories burn plastic, which makes the air dirty and people sick. Many poor countries do not get paid for taking waste. Instead, they make money from recycling. But if waste is not handled well, it is bad for people and nature.

For many years, Thailand took plastic waste from countries like the US and Japan. But many factories burn the waste instead of recycling it. This caused a lot of pollution.

Because of this, people asked the government to stop plastic waste imports. Thailand finally banned plastic waste to protect the environment. Now, other countries may do the same.
