Waiters Race Across Paris

A waiter racing competition was held in Paris recently.

Waiters Race Across Paris

Waiters racing across Paris!

Ever wondered why waiters, known for serving meals, would run around Paris, France? Is this a new kind of delivery service? Or are athletes dressed as waiters trying out a new race?

Actually, it's a waiter racing competition. About 200 waiters recently joined the race, [[jogging::To run in a slow manner.]] about 2 km through the city streets while cheered on by crowds.

Wow! What were the rules of the race?

Waiters and waitresses jogged around the track, carrying a tray containing a [[croissant::A little sweet roll with a curved shape, eaten primarily for breakfast.]], a glass of water, and an empty coffee cup.

The race’s rules were simple: To win, one had to cross the finish line without running, spilling, or holding the tray with both hands.

There were two winners, one male and the other female, and both received tickets to the [[opening ceremony::A ceremony that marks the opening or start of an event.]] of the 2024 Paris Olympics.

History of the race.

The race was started in 1914 to [[honour::To greatly respect something or someone.]] the cafes and restaurants of Paris. Sadly, it was cancelled more than 10 years ago due to a lack of funds to organise it.

It was relaunched this year to promote the excellent quality of French before the 2024 Paris Olympics.
